こんな語順になっているのはなぜか(2)

昨日出した宿題の解説です。 

１　Charles bestowed on William and daughter-in-law Kate the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales, which he and his late wife Diana previously held.   　

上記の文(１)がありますが、ジーニアス英和辞典の例文に従って書けば、下記の文(2)のようになるはずなのに、どうして順番が違うのかというのが質問でした。

２　Charles bestowed the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales, which he and his late wife Diana previously held, on William and daughter-in-law Kate.

ジーニアスの例文から、bestow A on B (AをBに授ける) と覚えます。

２の文で考えてみると、

Aの部分　the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales, which he and his late wife Diana previously held,

Bの部分　Willian and daughter-in-law Kate

となります。明らかにAの部分よりBの部分の方が短いことがわかります。

bestow A on B と覚えるのは基本だとしても、今回２のように書いてしまうと、Aの部分が長く on B の部分と離れすぎてしまうため、１の文のように on B の部分をbestowedのすぐ後ろにつけたと考えられます。

話は少し飛びますが、I find it interesting to read the book. という文の場合、itは形式目的語で、本当の目的語は、to read the book です。このように英語では長めのものは後付けということがよく起きます。
